Risk Management in the Romanian Energy Sector

August 1989

Romania has a privileged position within the EU due to its mix of energy production sources: hydro, nuclear, coal, natural gas and renewables. Moreover, energy independence is ensured by the in-country commodity existence, in particular to natural gas and coal. However, insuring commercial and financial risks for the Romanian energy sector is an insufficient strategy undertaken by the local companies.

Regardless of whether it is petroleum products, carbon certificates, natural gas or coal, all these commodities are listed on international markets and their value might fluctuates beyond any expectation.

In June 2018 at the FOREN – Regional Energy Forum for Central and Eastern Europe – held in Costinesti, Paicu & Sons Consulting together with Vitol SA organized a panel on the commercial and financial risks and their impact on the Romanian energy producers. The panel was chaired by Victor-Stefan Paicu, director Paicu&Sons and the speakers were Dan Gheorhiu (ISPE), Ionut Purica (xxx), David Fransen (Vitol SA), XXXX XXX (OPCOM), Ionel Ilie (C.E.Oltenia), Michael Curran (Vitol SA)
